Included Countries
Global Safety Net Reports are currently available for 102 countries, which
are divided into six regions:
- AFRICA (9)
- AMERICAS (28)
- ASIA (19)

- EUROPE (28)
- MIDDLE EAST (8)
- OCEANIA (10)

A number of factors were taken into consideration when deciding which countries
would be included. The most pertinent factor was the likelihood of Australian
passport holders to visit these countries. Countries that are currently undergoing
conflict or civil strife, such as Afghanistan and the Ivory Coast were intentionally
disregarded. Also disregarded were countries which discourage tourism through
extreme immigration conditions, such as Bhutan and Saudi Arabia. Finally, regions
that are technically countries, but lack the modern hallmarks of a state, such
as the Holy See and Liechtenstein, have also been excluded from the reports
as they operate within the framework of other states, in these cases Italy
and Switzerland respectively.
The countries included in Global Safety Net Reports are as follows:
Africa: Botswana, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania,
Tunisia and Zimbabwe (9 Countries).
The Americas: Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize,
Bermuda, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Canada, The Cayman Islands, Chile,
Columbia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Netherlands
Antilles (Saba, Sint Maarten), Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, St Kitts & Nevis,
Uruguay, US Virgin Islands, USA and Venezuela (28 Countries).
Asia: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong (SAR), India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia,
Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri
Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam (19 Countries).
Europe: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, The Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia,
Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania,
Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia,
Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and The United Kingdom (28 Countries).
The Middle East : Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and
The United Arab Emirates (8 Countries).
Oceania: Cook Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea,
Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti (French Polynesia), Tonga and Vanuatu (10 Countries).
It must be noted at this juncture that the countries outlined above are only
the current ones reported on. These countries may be changed upon the formal
request from Global Safety Net subscribers or upon release of further data
by the Bureau of Tourism Research or other relevant information sources that
may reflect the need for an alteration.
